Browlift:

Eyebrows have tendency to descend with aging, or sometimes have a low position even in young persons. Eyebrows will descend also after weight loss.

Descended eyebrows will give a tired look and sad expression to your face.

To correct the low eyebrows position, we use a brow lift. Very often it is the lateral brow that is descending we are using a lateral brow lift or temporal lift, also called mannequin lift. It will lift the excess hanging skin giving a crispy look to the eyes areas. Sometimes the medial brow is descended and will give an angry look. A brow lift will smooth the forehead and reposition the eyebrows.

The eyebrow lift procedure, could be done alone, in this case it is done under local anesthesia, with oral sedation, or with a facelift and blepharoplasty. This will be determined during the initial consultation.

A youthful brow, has the tail of the brow higher than the medial part.

Procedure:

For the temporal brow lift or mannequin look. A 3 cms long incision is made in the hair bearing area of the temporal area. A deep plane dissection is used to free the eyebrow attachment, permitting the lift of the eyebrows.

this procedure is done under local anesthesia, and it is sometimes associated with a blepharoplasty, or under general anesthesia if it is part of a face lift.

if the whole eyebrows medially and laterally have descended, an open brow lift  will be indicated, in this case a long incision is done across the forehead , the skin is lifted and any excess is removed.

.After removing excess tissue,  Dr Paul will close the incision with stitches or staples.

The treated area will be wrapped with a sterile padding and an elastic bandage to prevent bleeding and swelling (edema). You will have sutures and a dressing on your forehead for the first few days after surgery.

After the brow lift
It is best to sleep with your back and head elevated for approximately five to seven days.
You will likely be asked to come back to the office a day or two after surgery to evaluate your healing.
Most patients describe their forehead as feeling tight and somewhat numb the night of surgery. You will be provided with pain medications should you need them.
Temporary bruising, swelling, and numbness are common the first night after surgery. Maximum swelling occurs forty-eight to seventy-two hours post-surgery and begins to subside on the fourth or fifth postoperative day.Your sutures or staples will be removed approximately one week after surgery.

You may be able to return to work within a week and to full activity within a few weeks, but you must avoid heavy lifting or straining during this time.
Sensation in your scalp may be temporarily reduced. The feeling will begin to return over the first few weeks after surgery and your scalp will begin to feel ‘itchy’ as the nerves reawaken. Total numbness behind the incision in an open brow lift will usually persist for nine to twelve months post-surgery, sometimes longer in rare instances.

Usually, you can expect the final result from surgery to be evident after six months.
